LANGEVIAX PROCEDURE GUIDE

Body & veins / LANGEVIAX

Deoxycholic acid is an injectable medicine for a defined submental-fat indication, not a general license for fat-dissolving injections throughout the body. Assessment should first establish whether fullness comes from fat, skin or another medical cause.

A cell-disrupting drug, not a filler

The medicine disrupts cell membranes and destroys fat cells in the intended tissue; it is neither a filler nor a general skin-tightening treatment. Inflammation and swelling are part of the post-treatment course, but an unusual severity or duration needs review. Appropriate patient selection, genuine product and submental anatomical expertise are central to safety.

Canadian indication and product checks

The Canadian indication is improvement in the appearance of moderate-to-severe fullness associated with submental fat in adults. Match the product and identifier against the official database and label. Authorization of one medicine does not validate every mixture or body site. US or other foreign approval is not, by itself, Canadian authorization.

What may make the result unsuitable?

Marked loose skin, prominent neck-muscle bands or a different chin structure may make fat reduction an unsatisfactory solution. Disclose swallowing problems, neck surgery or injections, and local infection. A new lump or unexplained neck fullness needs diagnosis first. It should not move directly into a cosmetic package merely because the area resembles a double chin.

Treatment planning and expectations

Improvement is assessed gradually after inflammation subsides; early swelling can make the area look fuller. Repeat treatment may be required, with the plan determined by the clinician and the exact product label. Compare total costs, the threshold for stopping further treatment, observation, liposuction and appropriate surgical options before committing to a course.

Aftercare after injection

Follow the clinician’s written plan for swelling, discomfort and activity. A bland moisturizer on intact skin can help dryness, but a surface cream does not treat nerve injury or a deep mass. Do not improvise massage or cover symptoms with multiple anti-inflammatory medicines or cosmetics. Standardized photographs and the timing of symptoms can help the assessment.

Take lip weakness and dysphagia seriously

An asymmetric smile or facial weakness can indicate marginal mandibular nerve injury and needs prompt clinician contact. New difficulty swallowing, severe pain, ulceration or an unusual color change also requires assessment. Breathing difficulty, choking or rapidly increasing throat swelling is an emergency; do not wait for a cream to work or for the expected swelling period to finish.

Persistent masses and treatment outside the area

A September 2026 US safety update highlights unresolved nodules or masses and serious harms after use outside the submental region. This is safety information, not a new Canadian authorization. A persistent mass, wound or discharge should not be dismissed as normal fat dissolving. Arrange an examination and reassess whether any further treatment is appropriate.

Frequently asked questions

Does this authorize injection into the abdomen or arms?

No. Submental evidence cannot be generalized throughout the body; the Canadian monograph does not recommend use outside that region.

Should I wait if my smile becomes uneven?

Contact the clinician promptly for possible nerve weakness and an appropriate review plan.

Sources and context

Canadian sources take priority for regulatory context. FDA or other foreign information does not establish Canadian authorization for a product or use. A source-check date is distinct from publication date or independent clinical approval.
