The pleasure of turning a page

On paper, public trust, and the people behind every health decision.

I still believe in the pleasure of holding a magazine: the feel of paper, the quiet turn of a page. So much of life now arrives through a screen. I sometimes feel that we are drifting away from the physical world, from nature, and from being fully present with one another. I want to make room for those connections again.

For me, choosing paper means making time to pay attention. A magazine can sit beside a cup of tea or open a conversation across a kitchen table. You can mark a passage, return to it, and share it with someone whose wellbeing matters to you.

Clear, patient and useful explanations

Years of owning a pharmacy in Iran and teaching health-related subjects brought me close to people’s questions and concerns. They taught me to value explanations that are clear, patient, and useful.

In Canada, as a Quality Assurance Manager in cosmetics manufacturing, I worked with product quality and responsibility to consumers. Writing and publishing numerous books has continued the same effort: making knowledge easier to understand and use.

A conversation about evidence

Those experiences shape my ambition for Canada’s Health Pioneers: to explain evidence, put health claims in context, and be honest about uncertainty. I hope these pages help you ask better questions and have more informed conversations with your healthcare professionals.

This first issue begins with how to read evidence, then turns to decisions in everyday life: understanding blood pressure, caring for skin, and looking beyond quick fixes for sleep. The question connecting these subjects is simple: what does this information mean for you?

Canada and its people hold a special place in my heart. I hope this magazine can make a modest contribution to a community I love and am proud to belong to. I also want it to become a conversation. Tell me which health questions you would like us to explore.

Thank you for making room for these pages. I hope you find something here worth keeping, discussing, and passing on.
