Laser, light & energy / LANGEVIAX
RF microneedling combines needles with radiofrequency energy. Its potential benefit for a defined goal must be considered alongside the FDA safety communication concerning certain uses.

What adding energy changes
Needle electrodes deliver electrical RF energy into tissue, producing localized heating. Devices and needle designs differ; a marketing name or the word fractional alone does not establish quality. This is distinct from conventional needling and non-needling RF. A goal may be scar or texture improvement; unwanted volume loss must not disappear inside a vague promise of rejuvenation.

Potential benefit and evidence limits
A 2025 review included 16 studies and 481 participants and suggested acne-scar benefit, but designs differed and its search ended in July 2024. It preceded the FDA warning. Earlier favourable studies therefore do not invalidate subsequently reported serious harms. These data do not establish that RF needling is best for every skin tone or has no downtime.

What to establish before consent
Ask for the exact device, intended use, relevant Canadian authorization and provider experience with that area and skin tone; US clearance is not Canadian authorization. Discuss existing facial volume loss, implants or medical devices, medicines, cold sores, poor healing and keloids. Suitability and timing require individual assessment. Request a complication plan and a contact route outside normal opening hours.

How to interpret recovery and change
Warmth, swelling, tenderness and temporary colour change can occur, but their intensity and duration depend on the actual treatment. Texture change is gradual; another session should not proceed simply because a prepaid package says so. Document new hollowing, unexpected volume loss or numbness with consistent photographs and onset dates, and seek review rather than assuming these are normal collagen-building stages.

Care for punctured versus healed skin
Early care follows the specific clinician instructions. Do not improvise serums, brighteners, sunscreen or ointments on an open, oozing or blistered site; contact the treating team. Once the surface is closed and products are permitted, simple fragrance-free care and sun protection are reasonable. Products labelled regenerative, exosome or growth-factor do not acquire proven safety or benefit for delivery through needle channels.

Current safety warning and concerning symptoms
On 15 October 2025 the FDA warned about reported burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement and nerve damage with certain RF microneedling uses; its evaluation remains ongoing. This does not quantify the probability for every device or person. Severe or increasing pain, blisters, concerning colour change, new numbness or weakness need prompt assessment; altered vision or severe symptoms require emergency care.

What a fair comparison includes
Compare conventional needling, targeted laser, scar-specific treatment and no intervention. A small 20-person trial did not find a significant advantage from alternating RF needling with nonablative laser over laser alone; this is not a verdict on every regimen. Ask why this option fits your goal, how success will be measured and who takes responsibility for follow-up if complications occur.

Frequently asked questions
Is RF microneedling a home treatment?
No. FDA identifies it as a medical procedure and states these devices should not be used at home.
Section sources: FDA · RF microneedling safety communication, 15 October 2025
Does the warning ban every device?
No. It addresses reported harms and an ongoing evaluation, rather than a universal ban or identical risk for every device.

What if my face looks more hollow afterward?
Document the new change and arrange medical assessment; do not automatically continue sessions or corrective procedures before the cause is reviewed.
