Laser, light & energy / LANGEVIAX
Ablative resurfacing removes part of the skin surface and creates a controlled wound. Its results, recovery and care differ from nonablative treatment; the healing plan should be clear before treatment.

Full-field, fractional and laser type
CO2 and erbium:YAG lasers deliver energy absorbed by tissue water and remove targeted tissue. Full-field treatment addresses a continuous surface; fractional treatment creates small treated columns among untreated tissue. Fractional does not mean nonablative or wound-free. The machine name alone does not tell you treatment intensity, depth, recovery or suitability for your skin.

Which goal justifies the recovery?
This can be considered for selected scars, fine lines and visible photodamage; it does not solve substantial sagging, volume loss or every pigment disorder. Darker skin, previous post-inflammatory darkening, keloids, impaired healing and earlier procedures need assessment. An unexplained spot or lesion needs diagnosis first; an appearance goal must not delay evaluation of possible malignancy.

Medical and practical preparation
Discuss medicines and supplements, cold sores, isotretinoin, diabetes, immunosuppression and smoking; do not independently stop medicines. Ask whether prescription cold-sore prevention is needed. Plan time away from work, help at home, dressing costs and follow-up visits. If sedation is involved, arrange a safe journey home. Obtain a written plan suited to the actual treatment extent.

Wound closure, redness and results are separate stages
Oozing and crusting can occur, but your team should explain what is expected for this treatment. Surface closure commonly takes days to roughly one or two weeks, while redness can last much longer; timing depends on method and extent. Do not pick crusts. Returning to makeup or work is different from complete recovery, and collagen-related improvement is assessed later.

Open wounds need a wound-care plan
While skin is open or oozing, follow written instructions for cleansing, the specified ointment and dressings; petrolatum or a topical medicine belongs only if directed for that treatment. Do not improvise serums, brighteners, essential oils, scrubs, makeup or ordinary sunscreen on a wound. Use shade and dressing-compatible covering until sunscreen is permitted. Simple moisturizer and photoprotection return after closure as instructed.

Healing warning signs
Increasing pain, spreading redness or swelling, pus, unusual odour, fever, chills or persistent bleeding require prompt medical contact. Painful grouped blisters may represent herpes and need early review. Visual problems or severe eye pain require urgent care. Infection, thermal injury and ointment allergy need assessment; do not choose a steroid or antibiotic yourself to treat an uncertain problem.

Compare benefit with the burden of recovery
Nonablative laser usually entails less surface injury and recovery, but may require more visits. In a 19-person mild-to-moderate acne-scar trial, both studied lasers helped and nonablative treatment caused less redness, crusting and pain; this does not establish equivalence for all devices. Ask why ablation is preferred, what visible improvement is realistic and how pigment change or delayed healing will be managed.

Frequently asked questions
Does fractional mean wound-free?
No. Fractional ablative laser still creates small open channels and needs specific healing instructions.

Is an expensive repair cream better?
Price or a medical label does not establish wound suitability; use products appropriate to your healing stage and treatment instructions.

Will the scar disappear completely?
The usual goal is a less noticeable scar; complete scar elimination is not a guaranteed laser outcome.
