Laser, light & energy / LANGEVIAX
Red and near-infrared LED may be an adjunct for selected skin goals. Light colour alone does not establish device quality, effectiveness or eye safety.

Red light, blue light and PDT differ
Photobiomodulation uses red or near-infrared light to influence cellular responses; it is not intended to peel or burn skin. Blue light in some acne treatments has a different purpose. Photodynamic therapy, or PDT, also uses a photosensitizing medicine and requires different care. Multiple mask colours do not themselves establish multiple proven treatments.

Benefits and certainty
A 76-person sham-controlled study reported improvements in selected wrinkle and elasticity measures with specific light protocols. A newer 95-person trial also assessed defined regimens. Research-device findings do not guarantee every home mask. Do not expect surgical lifting, removal of all pigment problems or deep-scar correction; set a limited, clear outcome.

Selecting a device and checking authorization
Check that the device is intended for your goal; a skin mask and hair-loss cap are not substitutes. Obtain its model, instructions, contraindications, eye-protection requirements and Canadian status. An FDA reference or 'clinical' marketing label alone does not establish Canadian authorization or guaranteed results. Do not copy another model's regimen or increase exposure yourself.

Photosensitivity and assessment
Discuss lupus or photosensitive disease, light-sensitizing medicines, eye conditions, concurrent skin treatment and pigment responses to light or inflammation. Darker skin may develop pigmentation from visible light, so individualized assessment matters. Do not stop necessary medication to use a mask; ask a clinician or pharmacist about the particular device and intended use.

Eyes and accompanying skin care
Follow the model's eye-protection instructions; sunglasses are not a replacement for specified protective goggles. Do not assume closed eyelids are sufficient unless the instructions establish that. Avoid adding photosensitizing products or new serums under the light without clearance. For intact skin, gentle cleansing and moisturizing are reasonable; more ingredients do not necessarily improve outcomes.

Follow-up and healing claims
Use consistent photographs and a predefined review date; do not continue indefinitely without meaningful benefit simply hoping it will eventually work. A randomized 10-person post-ablative-laser study found no healing advantage over placebo. That does not invalidate every LED treatment, but it does challenge universal promises of faster recovery.

When to stop and seek help
Stop and seek advice for eye pain, vision change, new rash, burns, persistent redness or new pigmentation; vision changes or severe eye pain need urgent assessment. A light device cannot replace diagnosis of a changing lesion. Establish the cause and standard care for acne, pigment changes or hair loss; LED, when suitable, is an optional adjunct.

Frequently asked questions
Is LED the same as UV?
LED describes how light is produced. A red-light device is generally not UV; assess the particular model's spectrum and specifications.

Will longer sessions work better?
There is no such rule. Follow the model instructions and clinical advice; a studied regimen does not validate arbitrary longer exposure.

Will any red mask reproduce study results?
No. Output, design, intended use and regimen differ. Shared colour does not prove equivalent effectiveness.

Sources and context
Canadian sources take priority for regulatory context. FDA or other foreign information does not establish Canadian authorization for a product or use. A source-check date is distinct from publication date or independent clinical approval.
