Skin surface & scars / LANGEVIAX
A chemical peel is a family of treatments. The depth of controlled injury changes its purpose, recovery and risks; choosing one starts with identifying the actual skin concern.

How peel depths differ
Superficial peels commonly use glycolic, lactic or salicylic acid for surface concerns. Medium peels, sometimes using trichloroacetic acid, reach deeper. An acid name alone does not establish treatment depth: formulation and professional application also matter. Deep phenol peeling has a substantially different recovery and safety profile.

Benefits and realistic limits
Selected uneven pigmentation, roughness and fine lines may improve; superficial treatment often needs a course. An unexplained spot, melasma, a deep scar and sagging are different problems. Peeling does not remove excess skin or treat every dark mark. Compare results after healing using consistent photographs; visible shedding is not a quality score.

Information that changes suitability
Discuss post-inflammatory pigmentation, raised scars, cold sores, active skin disease, pregnancy, medicines and recent procedures. Current or previous isotretinoin needs review rather than a universal waiting rule for all peels. Experience treating your skin tone matters. Heart, kidney or liver disease is particularly relevant when phenol peeling is considered.

Before booking and treatment
Ask for the peel type and depth, responsible practitioner, follow-up arrangements, total cost and written care plan. Some people need prescribed preparation or cold-sore prevention; do not add or stop medicines yourself. Report sunburn or irritated skin before treatment. Leave realistic recovery time before an important event.

Recovery depends on depth
AAD describes initial healing around 1–7 days for superficial, 7–14 for medium and 14–21 for deep peels; redness can last longer. These are ranges, not guarantees. Dressings and follow-up are part of medium/deep treatment. Picking flakes or applying makeup prematurely can interfere with healing. Deep peeling needs an appropriate medical setting and close follow-up, rather than the assumptions used for an ordinary facial.

Aftercare and product categories
For intact recovering skin, a gentle cleanser and bland fragrance-free moisturizer are reasonable categories. Raw skin after a deeper peel needs the prescribed cleansing, ointment and dressing plan; ordinary serums are not wound care. Restart scrubs, acids and retinoids only when cleared. After healing and clearance, maintain sun protection and a tolerated sunscreen.

Warning signs and other options
Report increasing pain, spreading redness or swelling, pus, fever, unexpected blistering or stalled healing promptly. Eye symptoms require urgent assessment. Establish the cause of discoloration first: topical care, sun protection or another targeted treatment may fit better. An unsatisfactory result is not an automatic reason for a deeper peel.

Frequently asked questions
Is a deeper peel always better?
No. Greater depth can increase downtime and pigment or scarring risks. Match depth to the diagnosis and acceptable risk.

Can I use a brightening product immediately afterward?
Get a restart date from the practitioner. An acidic or irritating product on a disrupted barrier can worsen irritation.

Are peels forbidden for darker skin?
No, but depth selection and experience with similar skin tones matter. Certain peels carry greater persistent pigment-change risks.
